Several members of Monk's Brook U3A were interested in writing reminiscences of events in their lives so about eight people came together in October 2003 and with a slight fluctuation in membership we have met monthly ever
since.
At each meeting members read out their contribution and this frequently leads to fascinating discussions.
A topic is chosen as the subject for the next month and we take it in turns to host meetings which are always at 10 am on the third Friday of the month.
We followed some of the suggestions put out by the National U3A which included questions to provoke further memories and in 2006 we published a selection of our stories for the interest of other U3A members and of the general public. Where possible we illustrated them with contemporary photographs as we felt this added another dimension to our work.
Although most of us started our writing to provide a history for our immediate family we have enjoyed the stimulus of
working together and continue our writing with slightly wider and more up to date topics.
