Trip to RSPB Reserves Radipole & Lodmoor at Weymouth - Saturday 17th July

Outward Journey

Meet at Southampton Parkway at 9.00 (share cars so that one can share parking costs) for the 9.14 train arriving in Weymouth at 11.00.  (Backup train 9.42 arrives at 11.13)

Return  Journey

Leave Weymouth on 16.03 train arriving in Southampton Parkway at 17.37 (Backup train 16.20 arrives at 18.07)

Costs

The single Off-Peak Day Return fare is £21.90.

Groups of 4 travel at “4 for the price of 2” so 4 travel at £10.95 each.

Any extras who do not form groups of 4 can travel using my network card which gives a third discount so £14.45.

Once we have purchased tickets we will total the cost of tickets and share the total cost between all who go, so the cost of the trip might be anything between £10.95 and £14.45.

Radipole Lakes

These are within 400m of the train station so I suggest we go there first.  There is a visitor centre with toilets.  Entry is free,  but take your RSPB pass if you have one.  Summer is not the best time of year for birding but there should be some ducks and other birds around.  I suggest that we stay here until lunchtime .

Lunch

Eat in town.  Fish & chips?

Lodmoor

These are a 20 minute walk along the Esplanade from Radipole or we could catch a bus (so don’t forget your pass).  There is apparently a frequent local service from King’s Statue on the Weymouth Seafront along the Esplanade in the direction of “Overcombe Corner”.

In July the Common Terns are supposed to be a sight to see and the hide there is supposed to provide great views of the Common Tern Colonies with all the chicks calling and tumbling about!

Please let Mary know if you’ll be coming or not so that we’ll know who to expect.
